Cards’ Win Streak at Four

2 May 2023 by Tim OBrien

Following a victory against the Arrowhead Warhawks under the lights at Breitenbach Stadium Friday night, the Middleton Cardinals have built a four-game win streak going into tonight’s game against the Verona Wildcats. With an overall record of six wins and three losses, the Cardinals are now ranked third in the state.

Middleton’s offense has been firing on all cylinders and the team has defeated their last three opponents by nine goals or more.

In Friday night’s action, the Warhawks scored first, but, after sophomore attackman Arjay Johnson tied things up midway through the first quarter and junior middie Parker Leslie scored with just 19 seconds left in the quarter, the Cardinals held the lead for the rest of the evening.

Middleton’s scoring prowess was on full display at the opening of the second half, with three goals scored in the first three minutes by three different shooters: junior attackman Gabe Passini, sophomore middie Troy Teff and Parker Leslie, who contributed three goals and two assists in the game.

Johnson, who last week set a new team record for most goals scored in a single game, had another strong outing with five goals and one assist. Passini had three goals for the night and Teff had two.

The 13-4 win over Arrowhead follows two blowout in-conference victories against Sun Prairie
and reigning state champion Oregon.

Two more games are scheduled for this week including Friday evening play at Sauk Prairie and a Saturday match-up against Hudson High School, currently ranked first in Wisconsin.
